Digital Product Passports: Who Actually Owes One, and When

23 Sept 2026
Future of Digital Commerce Stage
Sustainability, ESG & Purpose AI, Automation & Emerging Technologies Regulation, Compliance & Risk
For eCommerce, digital, product, compliance and sustainability leaders who keep being sold a Digital Product Passport and would like to know whether they actually need one.

The EU registry for Digital Product Passports went live in July and the technical standards were published the same month, so the infrastructure now exists. What does not exist, for most categories, is an obligation. Large batteries are first, in February 2027. Textiles, furniture, tyres and ICT land somewhere between 2029 and 2031. Toys and detergents are already law but not until 2029 and 2030.

Sustainability consultant Rodica Murphy maps who actually owes what and when, then sits down with a senior sustainability lead from a UK fashion brand to hear what the work looks like in practice. Which products and markets are in scope. How bad the product data really is once you look. Who ends up owning it when eCommerce, tech, compliance and supply chain all have a claim.

What you can expect to take away:

 - Which categories owe a passport, on what date, and which ones do not
- How one brand is assessing its readiness, priorities and product data gaps
- How to get eCommerce, technology, compliance and supply chain teams pointing the same way
- A practical checklist of what to start now, without buying software you may not need

Level it's for: Head of / Director / Manager
